Clayton Hutson is the go-to man for managing, producing, and designing live concerts and events. He has performed various services for top names in the music industry, such as Pink, Kid Rock, and Garbage, while setting a unique and long forgotten standard of business and work etiquette. He recently sat down and had a question and answer session with online media The Bro Talk about his success as a live sound engineer and what makes his company different from the rest.
Hutson maintains a realistic approach to designing concerts, while still bringing creative and engaging components to enhance his clients music. He does this by looking in to all of the components, both dynamic and static, that will play a factor in the set up and tear down of his designs then creates accordingly for those challenges. Hutson feels that no detail is too small to be addressed, since his experience has shown him that its the fine details that usually cause the biggest problems.
Hutson has a high work ethic and runs his business at his standard, ignoring the industry norms of being a yes man or allowing for lower quality work in order to get the job done. Quality and consistency are the things that make his company the best in the business and he works diligently to maintain the same safe and efficient execution on every job. Having this as a center of his business platform Hutson also looks for employees who have a strong work abilities and feels that those are much more important talents than a likable nature, another stray from the norm.
Though Hutson seems to be the industry outsider because of his elevated principles, this career path is one that he has forged for himself over many years. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts in theater design and technical production from Central Michigan University. He continued on to earn a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan and establish his foundation of knowledge to make his mark in the industry.
Through his many years in the business, Hutson has worked as a production manager, stage manager, and was vice-president of production for the esteem company Ronin Event Creative. After gaining experience in several positions, Hutson fell in love with rock and roll and has since dedicated his talents and efforts to being a producer, designer and manager of live tours around the world.
